Half-Dozen Taunton Residents Displaced in 2-Alarm House Fire Christmas Night

Taunton Fire Department Quickly Extinguishes 2-Alarm House Fire

TAUNTON – Chief Timothy Bradshaw reports that the Taunton Fire Department made quick work of a two-alarm blaze in a multi-family home, which displaced six people, late Christmas night.

There were no injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Firefighters responded to 27 Second St. at approximately 10:54 p.m. after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a fire on the third floor of the home.

Taunton firefighters quickly responded and found heavy flames coming out of the top floor windows.

A second-alarm was called for due to the extent of the fire, the size of the home and weather conditions.

The blaze was knocked down and firefighters were able to confine it to the third floor of the multi-family home.

The first floor apartment and a rear apartment were occupied at the time. The apartment where the fire began, which includes the second and third floors, was vacant.

Taunton Fire investigators were called to the scene to determine the cause and origin of the blaze. Taunton Police were also on-scene.

Electricity to the building was shutoff due to water damage and the residents of the home are displaced.

The Taunton Emergency Management Agency and the American Red Cross are assisting to help the residents find a place to sleep for the night.

“This fire was quickly knocked down by Engine 3, who happened to be about a quarter-mile away at the station,” Chief Bradshaw said. “Thankfully there were no injuries. But, it’s still very sad to see two families uprooted from their home on Christmas night.”

This incident remains under investigation. No further information will be released at this time.
