Melrose Police Investigating Armed Bank Robbery
MELROSE — Chief Michael L. Lyle reports that the Melrose Police Department is investigating after a bank was robbed at gunpoint Friday afternoon.
At 4:40 p.m., Melrose Police were dispatched to Melrose Bank, 638 Main St., for a report of a robbery. Upon arrival, detectives conducted an on-scene investigation and learned that a man brandishing a firearm had climbed onto the counter and demanded money from a bank employee.
The suspect, who was wearing a ski mask, sunglasses and a light-colored jacket was given an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing the bank and heading south on Main Street. Witnesses described the suspect as being a thin white or light-skinned black man standing approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall.
The robbery remains under active investigation.
