Whitman Police to Host Active Shooter Response Training Course
ALICE Training Instructor Certification to be Offered in Two-Day Course
WHITMAN — Police Chief Scott D. Benton announces that the Whitman Police Department will be hosting a two-day instructor course on ALICE active shooter response training.
WHEN
Thursday, Feb. 22 and Friday, Feb. 23 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
WHERE
Whitman-Hanson Regional High School, 600 Franklin St., Whitman
WHAT
The training will teach those who attend to become certified ALICE instructors. ALICE stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter and Evacuate.
The strategy can be implemented in a number of fields such as, law enforcement, education and higher education, hospitals, businesses and places of worship.
The course teaches proactive, options-based strategies that increase the chances of survival during a violent intruder or active shooter event. Those who attend the course can take the strategies they have learned back to their workplace or organization and instruct others on how to safely respond during such an event.
“This knowledge and training is invaluable as a way to bridge the gap between the time a violent event has begun and when police officers arrive on scene,” Chief Benton said. “When and where an active shooter event takes place is often unpredictable and can happen in the blink of an eye. But, you can be prepared and train your staff, students or group members with these proven lifesaving strategies.”
The cost of the course is $595 and is open to the public, including parents and residents. Those who would like to attend can register at alicetraining.com. For more information email info@alicetraining.com or contact the Whitman Police Department at 781-447-1212.
