Burlington Police Remind Residents to Lock Their Car Doors During the Holiday Season
BURLINGTON — With the holiday season now in full swing, Chief Michael Kent and the Burlington Police Department want residents to remember to lock their cars and keep valuables out of sight in order to prevent theft.
Potential thieves often take advantage of unlocked vehicles by stealing purses, wallets, credit cards and other important items that may have been left inside.
In order to reduce the risk of motor vehicle break-ins, Burlington Police are strongly urging residents to always lock their vehicles, even if it is in a driveway. Never leave belongings, especially those of value, in the car or in plain view, especially during the holiday season when vehicles are more likely to contain expensive items.
“It’s unfortunate to think that someone would prey on people buying gifts for their loved ones, but these kinds of theft can be prevented by using caution and being vigilant,” Chief Kent said. “Bringing valuables inside, or locking them somewhere they’re not visible can go a long way toward keeping them from being stolen.”
If the public sees anything out of the ordinary or finds that any of their belongings have been stolen from their vehicle, they should call the Burlington Police Department at 781-272-1212.
