Wakefield Police Invite Residents to Donate Toys for Kids in Need
WAKEFIELD – Chief Rick Smith is pleased to announce that the Wakefield Police Department will once again collect donations for Toys for Tots this holiday season.
Wakefield Police have already begun collecting toys, and will continue the toy drive until Dec. 15. The department has been participating in the Toys for Tots program for the last several years. Toys for Tots was founded by the U.S. Marine Corps in 1947 and has provided toys to children all over the country ever since.
Marine Corps veterans Sgt. Jon Burnham, Detective Kenneth Silva and Officer John Whaley have volunteered their time to aid in this important mission to help families in need during the holiday season on behalf of Wakefield Police.
“We are all proud to participate in this fantastic program, and I hope residents will continue to support our donation drive as enthusiastically as they have in the past,” Chief Smith said. “I also want to applaud the three officers who are leading this program for their commitment to helping brighten the holiday season for kids in need.”
Residents can donate new, unwrapped toys for children ages infant to 16 in the lobby of the Wakefield Public Safety Building at 1 Union St. The donation box is available 24 hours a day.
