Concord Police Arrest Alleged Burglar Following Pursuit that Ended in Waltham
CONCORD — Chief Joseph O’Connor reports that the Concord Police Department arrested a man following a motor vehicle pursuit that ended in Waltham this afternoon.
STEVEN D. HOXIE, AGE 45, OF SOUTH BOSTON, is charged with:
- Breaking and Entering into a Residence During the Daytime to Commit a Felony (Two Counts)
- Receiving Stolen Property Over $250
- Operating to Endanger
- Failure to Stop for a Police Officer
On Wednesday, Nov. 22, at approximately 1:20 p.m., Concord Police received a 911 call from a resident of Emerson Road who reported that an unknown male, later identified as HOXIE, had attempted to gain entry to the residence.
The resident was able to provide police with a description of HOXIE and the vehicle he was driving when he fled the area. The description was given out and shortly after, an officer on patrol located the vehicle in the area of Route 2 and Sudbury Road.
The officer attempted to make a motor vehicle stop, but HOXIE refused to stop his vehicle and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit continued at speeds under 65 mph from Route 2 in Concord to Route 95 southbound in the Trapelo Road area in Waltham.
While the motor vehicle pursuit was in progress, Concord Police received an additional report from a resident of Fairhaven Road who, upon arriving home, discovered that their house had been broken into.
The pursuit ultimately came to and end when HOXIE attempted to enter a parking garage at the Constant Contact building, 1601 Trapelo Road, where he drove his vehicle through the gate of the garage before crashing the car inside. HOXIE then attempted to flee on foot and was apprehended by two Concord Police officers a short distance away inside the parking garage.
After an initial investigation, police learned that the vehicle HOXIE was operating had been reported stolen out of Quincy earlier today.
HOXIE was taken into custody without incident and booked as a courtesy by the Waltham Police Department. He is being transported to the Concord Police Department where he will be held pending a bail hearing.
