Chelmsford Police Promote Sergeant to Lieutenant
CHELMSFORD — Chief James M. Spinney is pleased to announce that Jason Hanscom was promoted to the rank of lieutenant on Wednesday.
“I wish Lt. Hanscom all the best as he joins the Chelmsford Police Department’s command staff and begins a new chapter in his career,” Chief Spinney said.
Lt. Hanscom’s new role will be that of Shift Commander for the midnight-8 a.m. shift. He will oversee all operations issues, as well as, care and control of all persons in custody at the police department.
He was promoted to sergeant in 2013 and serves as the department’s accreditation manager, reviewing policies and procedures to ensure that the Chelmsford Police Department is compliant with all accreditation standards.
The newly-promoted lieutenant also helps supervise the department’s auxiliary officers unit, which assists during large-scale events like parades and road races. He was a member of that unit from 1996 to 2002, when he was hired as a full-time patrol officer.
