Two Maynard Fire Recruits Graduate from State Call/Volunteer Training Academy
MAYNARD — Chief Anthony Stowers announces that two Maynard Fire Department recruits graduated from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy this week.
Firefighters Ralph Rodrigues and Alex Martinec, both Maynard natives, completed the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy’s Call/Volunteer Recruit Firefighter Training Class 67. The ceremony, which was held on Wednesday, Nov. 1, at the Massachusetts Fire Academy in Stowe, recognized 34 graduates from 19 fire departments throughout the state.
In addition to graduating, Firefighter Martinec was awarded the Martin H. McNamara Award for being the outstanding student in the class, both academically and on the drill yard. The award is named in honor of Martin McNamara, a Lancaster Firefighter who died in the line of duty in 2003.
“We are very proud of our recruits and how they have represented the department,” Chief Stowers said. “I congratulate them both and know they will continue to serve our residents well.”
Firefighter Martinec is a graduate of Maynard High School and has been with the department for about a year. Firefighter Rodrigues graduated from Leominster High School and has been with Maynard Fire for two years.
