Georgetown Police Participate in Successful Trick-or-Trunk Event at Penn Brook School

GEORGETOWN — Chief Donald C. Cudmore is pleased to announce that the Georgetown Police Department participated in the second annual Halloween Trick-or-Trunk event earlier this month.

On Saturday, Oct. 14, from 3-5 p.m., hundreds of cars parked at Penn Brook School, 68 Elm St., and opened their trunks for students in kindergarten through sixth grade to collect some candy, play games and hang out with their friends.

Trick-or-Trunk first started last year after resident Jennifer Burgey, whose daughter is unable to spend multiple hours walking around neighborhoods trick or treating, approached School Resource Officer Henry Olshefsky about providing a more manageable Halloween experience. Georgetown Police then worked with Penn Brook School to make it happen, and Officer Olshefsky made sure to attend, along with members of the Georgetown Fire Department, to share in the fun with students.

Residents interested in participating in Trick-or-Trunk pay a small fee, which is donated to the Georgetown Special Education Parent Advisory Council. SEPAC works with Georgetown Public Schools to provide needed resources to the special education department. This year, participation in the event doubled, bringing in $3,000 for SEPAC, as opposed to $1,500 last October.

During Trick-or-Trunk, drivers decorated their vehicles to provide scary, fun and humorous experiences to children as they came by to collect their candy. From the Monsters Inc. and gumball machine cars, to a minivan that had its back tailgate set up like a jail, and the vehicle designed as a graveyard with scarecrows, there was a little something for everyone to truly get in the Halloween spirit. Students and parents also donned their favorite costumes as they made their way from trunk to trunk.

“This was a great event that really brought the community together to raise money for a community organization that helps make a difference for students at Georgetown Public Schools,” Chief Cudmore said. “I want to commend Officer Olshefsky for his work on making Trick-or-Trunk such a success in town. We hope next year brings out even more students, parents and decked out vehicles.”
