Stoughton High School Teacher No Longer Employed by District after Allegations about Inappropriate Relationship with Student
STOUGHTON — Superintendent Marguerite Rizzi and Stoughton High School Principal Juliette Miller report that a high school teacher is no longer employed by the district after allegations surfaced about an inappropriate relationship between the teacher and a former student that began when the student was at the high school.
The teacher resigned after being served with an “intention to dismiss” notice by the district, indicating the district was beginning the process of terminating the employee.
The teacher, whose name cannot be released under the law, was placed on administrative leave on Sept. 18, hours after a report was made to Superintendent Rizzi indicating that the teacher began an inappropriate sexual relationship with a student that continued after the student had graduated and that recently ended.
Superintendent Rizzi forwarded the report to the Stoughton Police Department immediately, and the Stoughton Public Schools have been cooperating fully in the police investigation.
“The allegations point to a startling abuse of the trust placed in every teacher,” Superintendent Rizzi said. “This individual was immediately removed from the classroom when the district learned of the alleged relationship, and we are cooperating fully with the Stoughton Police Department. I understand that there is a tremendous desire for more information, but we are bound by the law in what we can say publicly, and we also cannot jeopardize the ongoing investigation.”
Superintendent Rizzi and Principal Miller wish to remind all students that Stoughton High School counselors are always available if anyone wishes to take advantage of these resources.
