Easton Police Arrest Armed Robbery Suspect
EASTON — Chief Gary F. Sullivan reports that the Easton Police Department arrested a man for armed robbery yesterday.
ERIC JAMES ORTIZ, AGE 26, OF TAUNTON, was arrested and charged with Armed Robbery.
At approximately 11:47 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 16, Easton Police responded to Papa Gino’s, 594 Washington St., for a report of an armed robbery.
Upon arrival, officers learned that a man, later identified as ORTIZ, entered Papa Gino’s and began placing a food order. While ordering, ORTIZ demanded that the cashier open the register and give him the money inside. ORTIZ allegedly grabbed at the front of his pants, threatening that he had a gun.
No injuries were reported and no weapon was shown.
ORTIZ then fled the restaurant with an undisclosed amount of cash and got into a vehicle, which left the parking lot traveling northbound on Washington Street (Route 138).
After an initial investigation, police were able to obtain a description of ORTIZ and the vehicle he was traveling in, later locating him at an apartment complex in Bellingham, where the vehicle was registered.
ORTIZ was subsequently arrested and taken into custody without incident.
These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
