Tyngsborough Police Department Creates “Safe Zone” for Residents Making Online Transactions
TYNGSBOROUGH — Chief Richard Howe is pleased to announce that the Tyngsborough Police Department has implemented a new program that gives community members a safe and secure meeting place to complete online transactions.
Tyngsborough Police worked with OfferUp, an online marketplace, to establish a “MeetUp Spot” at the police station to ensure buyers and sellers can make safe, in-person transactions with more peace of mind.
Those who would like to utilize the service can go to the police station, 20 Westford Road, to complete online transactions made through Facebook, Craigslist, or another medium. An area in the station’s parking lot has been designated as the MeetUp Spot.
“Many people purchase and sell items online on a regular basis and we want to provide a safe and public place for buyers and sellers to meet,” Chief Howe said. “We are strongly encouraging the community to utilize this new service if they plan on making any face-to-face business transactions and hope the security of this location will ease any anxiety associated with these types of situations.”
While the Tyngsborough Police Department cannot guarantee the quality or authenticity of items purchased online, the MeetUp Spot was created to give residents a safe, secure and public spot to purchase and sell items.
The Tyngsborough police station is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is covered by security cameras.
