West Newbury Fire Department to Celebrate Retirement of Former Chief Berkenbush
WEST NEWBURY — Chief Michael Dwyer and the West Newbury Fire Department invite residents to join in celebrating the retirement of longtime member and former Chief Scott Berkenbush.
West Newbury firefighters and residents will honor former Chief Berkenbush’s lengthy career with a dinner and celebration on Oct. 27, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Town Annex, 381 Main St.
Berkenbush retired from the department in March, following 46 years of service to the Town of West Newbury. During his tenure, he ascended through the ranks of the department, spending time as a firefighter, lieutenant, captain, deputy chief, assistant chief and then chief, a post he held until 2013.
“Scott Berkenbush’s wide-ranging contributions to the growth and success of our department over more than four decades deserve to be recognized and celebrated,” Chief Dwyer said. “We are excited to spend an evening honoring him for his unquestionable commitment to our department and our town.”
During his time with the department, Berkenbush spent over 15 years as the director of the West Newbury Emergency Management Agency. He also served as a secretary, treasurer and two-term president of the West Newbury Fire Company.
He also earned numerous firefighter certifications, as well as firefighting and emergency medical licenses, and served as an instructor and examiner at the Massachusetts Fire Academy. He was also an active member of the West Newbury Board of Fire Engineers and the Board of Library Trustees
Tickets are $20 and are available at the West Newbury Town Office, Selectmen’s Office, West Newbury Public Safety Building or by emailing fire@westnewburysafety.org. Guests are asked to RSVP no later than Oct. 20.
