Arlington Police to Host First Coffee with a Cop Event
ARLINGTON — Chief Frederick Ryan is pleased to announce that the Arlington Police Department will be hosting its first Coffee with a Cop event next week.
WHEN:
Wednesday, Oct. 4 from 9-11 a.m.
WHERE:
Dunkin Donuts, 21 Summer St., Arlington
WHAT:
Arlington residents are invited to join members of the Arlington Police Department for an informal get-together at the department’s first Coffee with a Cop event next week.
Coffee with a Cop is an initiative implemented throughout cities and towns nationwide, that is designed to provide a welcoming environment for residents to get to know their police officers face-to-face and talk about what’s going on in their community.
The event is part of National Community Policing Week. The Arlington Police Department is dedicated to the concepts of community policing, building public trust and police legitimacy.
“This is a unique opportunity for residents to come and get to know their police officers in a relaxed environment,” Chief Ryan said. “We hope that everyone who has time will stop by, say hello and enjoy a cup of coffee with us.”
Coffee will be provided free of charge.
About Coffee with a Cop:
Coffee with a Cop began in Hawthorne, Calif. in 2011 as a result of police officers brainstorming ways to better interact with their community. They developed a simple plan to break down the barriers that have been built between police officers and citizens — have a cup of coffee, discuss what’s on your mind, ask questions and make suggestions that could better the community.
Since its creation, Coffee with a Cop events have been held in more than 2,000 communities in 49 states. It is regarded as one of the most successful community oriented policing programs in the United States.
