Bedford Police Invite Residents to have Coffee with a Cop
BEDFORD — Chief Robert Bongiorno and Middlesex Community College invite the community to enjoy “Coffee with a Cop” on campus early next month.
WHEN:
Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017
7:30-9:30 a.m.
WHERE:
Middlesex Community College Bedford Campus
Campus Center
591 Springs Road, Bedford
WHAT:
Chief Bongiorno and other members of the Bedford Police Department will be on hand to meet and greet any students, faculty, staff, and any other community members who wish to stop by the police department’s table at the MCC Campus center.
This is an annual event, and last year’s event drew a great crowd. The Police Department hopes that many people will attend, and all are welcome.
The event is part of National Community Policing Week. The Bedford Police Department is extremely dedicated to the core concepts behind community policing, building public trust, and legitimacy in policing.
The Bedford Police Department has an officer, Craig Naylor, assigned full-time to the MCC campus, and there is a very strong partnership between the college and the police department
“The Bedford Police Department is a friendly, protective, and dedicated group of people who come to work every day to ensure a high quality of life in our community, and our community includes the students, faculty, and staff at MCC,” Chief Bongiorno said. “I encourage everyone who has questions about policing or who wants to put faces and names together to stop by, especially if we have not had the chance to meet you in person.”
Added Patrick Cook, executive director of public affairs for MCC: “The Bedford Police Department is a terrific partner to Middlesex Community College, and we are grateful for the strong working relationship between the college and its two municipal police departments in Bedford and Lowell. The Coffee with a Cop event allows our campus population to really get to know the men and women who help protect our community.”
Coffee — of course — and other refreshments will be provided free of charge.
About Coffee with a Cop:
Coffee With a Cop began in Hawthorne, Calif. in 2011 as a result of police officers brainstorming ways to better interact with their community. They developed a simple plan to break down the barriers that have been built between police officers and citizens — have a cup of coffee, discuss what’s on your mind, ask questions and make suggestions that could better the community.
Since its creation, Coffee With a Cop events have been held in more than 2,000 communities in 49 states. It is regarded as one of the most successful community oriented policing programs in the United States.
