Stoneham Police Arrest Alleged Serial Bank Robber
State/Local Task Force Arrests Man Suspected in Four Bank Robberies
STONEHAM — Chief James McIntyre reports that the Stoneham Police Department, working in conjunction with partner law enforcement agencies as part of a state and local task force, today arrested a reputed serial bank robber who had allegedly robbed four banks on the North Shore.
JUSTIN A. HANLON, AGE 28, OF DANVERS was arrested and charged with Attempting to Commit a Crime after he was arrested at the Citizen’s Bank branch located inside the Stop and Shop store on Main Street. HANLON was taken into custody as he approached the entrance to the store wearing the same clothes seen in surveillance footage of previous robberies: a hooded sweatshirt, baseball cap, sunglasses, and blue gloves.
HANLON was under surveillance and had been the target of an investigation by multiple law enforcement agencies. He will also be charged in connection with three bank robberies in Danvers and another in Beverly.
The task force is made up of police detectives from Stoneham, Danvers, Beverly, Woburn, Winchester, Reading, the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, and State Police K-9 units.
“The level of cooperation we enjoy in this region enables the Stoneham Police Department and our surrounding communities to better react to acts of crime and prevent crime trends from turning into outright crime sprees,” Chief McIntyre said. “In this case, the suspect’s alleged actions were noticed by a group of trained professionals, and he was stopped in his tracks today.”
HANLON is being held at the Stoneham Police Department pending his arraignment Monday in Woburn District Court.
These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
