Bridgewater Police Arrest Two after Pursuit
BRIDGEWATER — Chief Christopher D. Delmonte reports that the Bridgewater Police Department last evening arrested a Taunton man and a Weymouth woman after they allegedly led police on a pursuit with a stolen vehicle.
As a result, STEPHAN MYER, AGE 40, OF TAUNTON, the driver, was arrested and charged with:
- Failure to Stop for a Police Officer
- Operating a Vehicle with Revoked License
- Negligent Operation of Motor Vehicle
- Fail to Stop/Yield for Traffic
- Marked Lanes Violation
- Speeding
- Receiving Stolen Property over $250
- Kidnapping
Additionally, LAURIE SHEPARD, AGE 40, OF WEYMOUTH, the passenger, was arrested and charged with Receiving Stolen Property over $250.
On Monday at 6:50 p.m., Bridgewater Police officers spotted a gray 2004 BMW speeding as it exited the CVS parking lot on Summer Street. The officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but it fled. The suspect vehicle drove erratically and at a high rate of speed down Summer Street and onto Burril Avenue, which runs through the Bridgewater State University Campus.
The vehicle then drove down Great Hill Drive, when the driver lost control while speeding through a curve. As a result, the suspect vehicle struck a Bridgewater Police cruiser that was traveling in the opposite direction.
The driver, identified as MYER, was taken into custody along with SHEPARD. SHEPARD, the passenger, then claimed that MYER refused to allow her to exit the vehicle, and the charge of Kidnapping was added to MYER’s arrest.
A search of the vehicle uncovered several stolen items.
Bridgewater Police later learned that MYER had, only minutes earlier, allegedly led Lakeville Police on a pursuit in the same stolen vehicle. Lakeville Police called off its pursuit as the BMW entered Bridgewater.
SHEPARD was treated and released from Brockton Hospital. Both suspects were held at the Bridgewater Police Department pending arraignment at Brockton District Court on Tuesday.
The police officer in the struck cruiser was not seriously injured.
These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
