Bedford Police and Fire Departments Respond After Car Crashes Into Building

BEDFORD – Police Chief Robert Bongiorno and Fire Chief David Grunes report that the Bedford Police and Fire Departments responded to single-car crash yesterday where a woman drove into the side of a building in town.

On Wednesday, Sept. 6, at approximately 9 a.m., Bedford Police and Fire units responded to 50 Loomis St. after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting that a car had crashed into the side of the building.

Upon arrival, first responders observed that a 2003 Toyota Camry had crashed into the side of the multi-unit office building. Firefighters began rendering first aid to the operator of the vehicle, an 83-year-old Bedford woman. She sustained injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening and was transported to Lahey Hospital and Medical Center for evaluation.

Bedford Police also filed an immediate threat notification on the driver with the Registry of Motor Vehicles.

Following the crash, the building was evacuated and the building inspector was called to evaluate for structural damage. Out of precaution, temporary supports for the first floor of the building were installed, allowing some businesses to reopen today. Once the building was deemed safe, the vehicle was carefully removed and towed from the scene.

No other injuries were reported.

This incident remains under active investigation by the Bedford Police Department.
