Newport Police Department Arrests Man for Aggravated Assault

NEWPORT — Sgt. Travis R. Bingham reports that the Newport Police Department arrested a man involved in an assault that occurred over the weekend.

EVERETT WILSON, AGE 26, OF DERBY, was arrested and charged with:

  • Aggravated Assault
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance

On Saturday, Aug. 19, at approximately 1:23 a.m., Newport Police were dispatched to the area of Main Street in Newport City for a report of a large fight.

Upon arrival, police observed several individuals near the intersection of Central Street and Main Street, who appeared to be fighting and yelling at each other.

Police conducted an initial investigation and learned that a man identified as WILSON had allegedly stabbed a 21-year-old Barton man during an altercation.

WILSON was taken into custody without incident and later released on personal recognizance pending his arraignment in Orleans District Court.

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
