East Bridgewater Police Investigating after Car Cashes into Vehicles and Trees

Driver, Three Others Injured

EAST BRIDGEWATER — Police Chief Scott Allen reports that the East Bridgewater Police Department responded after a motor vehicle crashed into several other vehicles and trees and came to a rest in a yard, narrowly missing a house. A total of four people were injured. 

Rescuers responded to the outside of 611 North Bedford St. (otherwise known as Rt.18) at 11:46 a.m. for a reported crash. 

Upon arrival, police officers and firefighters found a badly damaged sedan that had struck four other vehicles before striking trees and a stone wall before striking the house and a fifth parked car in the driveway before coming to a rest directly in front of the home.

The operator, identified as Richard Chermesino, age 29, of East Bridgewater, sustained injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening and was transported by ambulance to South Shore Hospital.

Three other people were hurt and transported to a local hospital for injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening. They included the drivers of two of the vehicles that were struck and a passenger in one of the vehicles.

The incident is under investigation by the East Bridgewater Police Department. The investigation so far indicates that the vehicle was moving at a very high rate of speed, upwards of 100 mph, prior to the crash. 

The house did not sustain serious damage, but there was damage to the exterior of the house and significant damage to the grounds, including the landscaping and stone retaining wall.
