Tyngsborough Police Uncover Large Marijuana Growing Operation inside Industrial Complex
TYNGSBOROUGH — Chief Richard D. Howe reports that Tyngsborough Police detectives are investigating after a large, illegal marijuana growing operation was found inside a unit of an industrial complex.
Tyngsborough Firefighters responded to a unit inside Westech Park, on Westech Drive, for an activated fire alarm and odor of smoke coming from the building. Firefighters made entry to a unit and found what later turned out to be approximately 250 marijuana plants of varying size and an operation intended to grow and cultivate the plants. No fire was found.
Police detectives obtained a search warrant for the unit, and the investigation is ongoing at this time with the assistance of the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and Massachusetts State Police.
There are no legal marijuana grow or sales operations in Tyngsborough.
“This is an illegal and dangerous drug cultivation business, and we are conducting a full and thorough investigation,” Chief Howe said.
The complex is located off of Westford Road, near Rt. 3. National Grid was called in to disable power to the unit for the safety of the building.
