North Reading Police Participate in Special Olympics Torch Run Cruiser Convoy

NORTH READING — Chief Michael P. Murphy is pleased to announce that the North Reading Police Department participated in the 10th annual Law Enforcement Torch Run Cruiser Convoy to benefit athletes competing in the Special Olympics of Massachusetts Summer Games.

On Saturday, June 10, North Reading officers formed a “Cruiser Convoy” with over 100 police departments from across the state making the drive to the Harvard University athletic complex to show support for the athletes. Lights flashed and sirens sounded from the cruisers to attract attention to the event.

The entire convoy converged on the Boston College School of Law at 11 a.m. before parading to Harvard to signal the beginning of the games.

“Joining our fellow officers from across the state to help such a good cause was very rewarding for our department,” Chief Murphy said. “We were honored to participate and do our part to boost the already-high spirits of the athletes at the games.”

The event was one of many events for the summer session of the Special Olympics of Massachusetts. For more information on the games, click here
