Methuen Police Department Hosts 8th Annual Senior Pasta Dinner
METHUEN — Mayor Stephen Zanni and Chief Joseph Solomon are pleased to announce that the Methuen Police Department hosted its eighth annual senior pasta dinner earlier this week.
On Tuesday, May 30, the Methuen Police Department served dinner and dessert to more than 300 seniors. The event took place at the Methuen Senior Center on 77 Lowell St., where police officers served pasta and meatballs with sauce and fresh Italian bread with butter for dinner, and coffee and cake for dessert.
The Methuen Police Superior Officer’s Union, the Methuen Police Patrolman’s Union and the Fraternal Order of Police sponsored the event. The fresh Italian bread and cake were donated by Piro’s Bakery, 300 Merrimack St., and the Tenney Grammar School, 75 Pleasant St., donated cooking utensils.
“I’m proud of the Methuen Police Department for organizing this event to recognize the seniors of our city,” Mayor Zanni said. “It was a great time with good food and even better company. We also have to thank Piro’s Bakery and the Tenney Grammar School for their generous donations.”
The dinner is organized each year to boost communication and strengthen relationships between Methuen’s senior citizens and the police department. The annual event provides a comfortable setting for both parties to meet in order to discuss any concerns that arise, as the elderly are often hesitant to call the police when they need assistance.
“Our senior citizens are very important to us and do so much for the community,” Chief Solomon said. “We’re happy to see such a tremendous turnout and are grateful that so many seniors took the time to ask questions and talk to us about what’s on their mind. We’re already looking forward to next year’s event!”
