Methuen Police Department Unveils New Memorial Police Badge
METHUEN — Mayor Stephen Zanni and Chief Joseph Solomon are pleased to announce that the Methuen Police Department has unveiled a new Police Memorial Badge that officers will wear as part of their uniform for the month of May in honor of National Police Week.
The new badges are the first of their kind, created by Blackinton, the largest manufacturer of police, fire, security, military, and government badges and uniform insignia in the United States. Methuen Police will wear the badges every year during the month of May in observance of National Police Week which is being held from May 14-20 this year.
Established by Congress in 1962, National Police Week honors law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.
“These badges symbolize the sacrifices that law enforcement officers make each and every day to keep their communities safe,” Mayor Zanni said. “Thank you to the Methuen Police Department for all you do, and for continuously finding new ways to show your support for causes that are important to you and the city.”
A committee of Methuen Police officers started working on the custom design with Blackinton back in February, and were able to follow the progress of the badges on Blackinton’s social media sites. The committee also coordinated with the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) on trademark licensing specifics for the badge, which features the NLEOMF logo.
“We are proud to have played such an active role in the process of creating these unique badges, and are honored to wear them in support of National Police Week,” Chief Solomon said. “I would like to thank all of those who took part in this process for their thoughtful input and creativity. This wouldn’t have been possible without you.”
Methuen Police proudly debuted their new badges at the annual Police Officer Memorial Ceremony on May 15. Friends and family of fallen Methuen Police officers gathered at the ceremony to honor and remember their loved ones as well as all law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty.
