*Joint Press Release* Merrimac Police and Fire Respond to Dirt Bike Crash

MERRIMAC — Police Chief Eric M. Shears and Deputy Fire Chief Larry Fisher report that the Merrimac Police and Fire Departments responded to a dirt bike crash this week where the driver suffered serious injuries.

On Tuesday, May 16, around 7 p.m., police and fire responded to the wooded area off Heath and Hadley roads for a report of a dirt bike crash.

Upon arrival, first responders learned that a 21-year-old man from East Boston was driving a dirt bike that had crashed into a tree off the ATV trail.

Police and fire had to search on foot and with two ATVs to locate the driver in the woods.

The man was treated on scene by EMTs and then taken to a Boston Hospital with serious injuries that were not believed to be life threatening.

“This was a great joint effort between the Merrimac Police and Fire Departments,” Chief Shears said. “Through the work of dispatch, police, firefighters and EMTs, we were able to locate, treat and have the patient transported very quickly.”

“Each person on scene played a vital role in responding to this crash,” Deputy Chief Fisher said. “I want to commend all involved for their cooperation and teamwork.”
