Newburyport Police Arrest Armed Robbery Suspect

NEWBURYPORT — City Marshal Mark Murray reports that the Newburyport Police Department arrested a suspect allegedly involved in an armed robbery that occurred yesterday.

AUSTIN M. GREGORY, AGE 30, OF LENOX, is charged with Armed Robbery While Masked.

On Tuesday, May 16, at approximately 6:26 p.m., Newburyport Police responded to the State Street Mobil gas station, 107 State St., for a report of an armed robbery.

Upon arrival, police learned that the suspect, later identified as GREGORY, entered the gas station and showed a handgun, demanding money. GREGORY fled the scene in a red Toyota Yaris with an undisclosed amount of cash.

After an initial investigation, Newburyport Police broadcasted a description of the suspect and vehicle to all law enforcement agencies in the area. Minutes later, Salisbury Police reported they had GREGORY in custody on Beach Road in Salisbury.

GREGORY was turned over to Newburyport Police and booked at the Newburyport Police Station where he was held pending his arraignment at Newburyport District Court.

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
