Bridgewater Police Arrest Two for Allegedly Passing Counterfeit $100 Bills
BRIDGEWATER — Chief Christopher Delmonte reports that the Bridgewater Police arrested two individuals Thursday after they passed counterfeit $100 notes in West Bridgewater and later in Bridgewater.
GARFIELD THOMAS, 32, and JOCELYN VAZQUEZ, 31, both of ROXBURY, were arrested and charged with:
- Larceny Under $250 by False Pretenses
- Possessing Counterfeit Notes
- Uttering Counterfeit Notes
On Thursday, May 11, at approximately 7:15 p.m., Bridgewater Police received a broadcast from police in West Bridgewater informing them that a male and female and had passed a counterfeit $100 bill at a CVS in West Bridgewater. Bridgewater Police were given a description of the pair, their vehicle and a partial license plate number for the vehicle.
A short time later, the vehicle was spotted in the parking lot at Home Depot in Bridgewater. A detective entered the store and saw THOMAS and VAZQUEZ, who appeared to match the suspects’ descriptions, then watched as they made a purchase with a $100 bill.
THOMAS and VAZQUEZ were then detained outside the store as Bridgewater Police confirmed that the serial number on the $100 bill used at Home Depot matched the serial number on the bill used at the CVS. After officers arrested the pair, they found 42 more counterfeit $100 bills in their possession.
The case remains under investigation by the Bridgewater Police Department and the Counterfeit Division of the U.S. Secret Service.
The suspects were held pending arraignment in Brockton District Court.
These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
