Town of Randolph Changes Speed Limit Throughout Town

RANDOLPH — Chief William Pace and the Randolph Police Department report that the Randolph Town Council has voted to change the default speed limit from 30 mph to 25 mph throughout the town.

The measure was introduced by Councilor James F. Burgess Jr. on March 13, and a public hearing was held March 27. The Council voted unanimously, 8-0, to approve the order, which took effect immediately.

The new speed limit, which governs motorists driving in business districts and thickly settled residential neighborhoods.

The new statutory speed limit does not apply to to roadways with an existing speed limit below 25 mph, which will remain unchanged. Speed limits on state routes will also remain unchanged.

The Randolph Police Department reminds residents that the department will be strictly enforcing the new speed limit, and motorists who violate the limit are subject to fines and points on their automobile insurance.

“The new speed limit has been implemented by the Town of Randolph to improve the safety of residents, motorists, pedestrians, and children playing in our neighborhoods,” Chief Pace said. “Please heed this warning, and drive carefully.”
