Nine Melrose Middle School Students Progress to History Bee National Finals
MELROSE — Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School (MVMMS) Principal Brent Conway is pleased to announce that the nine students who participated in the National History Bee regional finals event have qualified for the National History Bee competition in Atlanta, Ga.
Eighth graders Eli Champoux, Alec DeGraaf, Ella Fleming, Matthew Frawley, Alex Germain, Thomas McAndrews, Xavier Meade-Kelly and Daniel Urchuk, along with seventh grade student Jonathan Wright, participated in the regional finals and are all eligible to move on to the next step of the competition.
MVMMS hosted the regional finals on Saturday, April 8. The Preliminary Rounds of the national finals will be held in Atlanta on June 2-3, and Championship Rounds will be held on June 4.
Participants competed in three rounds of a buzzer format event that tests their knowledge of a wide range of topics in the social studies curriculum to determine regional champions and national qualifiers.
“We have had one or two students qualify each year, but nine is quite an accomplishment. This is not an easy competition, and our students continue to showcase their knowledge of history topics,” Principal Conway said. “We’re extremely proud to have these students represent the middle school, and we wish them luck in the next stage of the competition.”
