WHAT:
Mayor Charles Lombardi, the North Providence Police Department and City Officials have a strong commitment to the collective safety of their residents, students, staff, and visitors. As a part of this collaborative commitment, Mayor Lombardi has approved funding for the installation of Shooter Detection Systems’ indoor active shooter detection system, a network of reliable gunshot detection sensors that immediately detect gunshots and notify building occupants and law enforcement with shot location and incident details, allowing for a life-saving immediate response to the active shooter threat.
Law Enforcement experts agree that effective response to an active shooter incident depends on sending immediate notification with reliable incident details to first responders and at-risk building occupants. First responders must immediately address the active shooter situation in progress and reduce the incident’s duration to save lives. Building occupants also need this information to safely implement their “Run, Hide, Fight” training and make the best decisions to save their own lives during a terrifying situation.
Mayor Lombardi, in collaboration with Rhode Island State, School and City Officials and Shooter Detection Systems will host an event showcasing North Providence’s commitment to safety and as the first city in the nation to install The Guardian Indoor Active Shooter Detection System in every municipal building across the city to protect students, staff, and the community against the active shooter threat.
With Shooter Detection Systems installed in all schools and city buildings throughout North Providence, immediate and accurate detection and location gunshot alerts will be rapidly received by building occupants and law enforcement in the event of an active shooter.
