Delphi Technology Solutions Joins Lawrence Police Department for Autism Awareness Day
LAWRENCE — As part of an event aimed at raising awareness for autism, Delphi Technology Solutions joined the Lawrence Police Department this week to participate in their “Light It Up Blue” campaign.
On April 4, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., community members were invited to the Lawrence Police Department for Autism Awareness Day, which included a meet-and-greet with officers, a tour of the station and a chance to get an up close look at police cruisers and other equipment.
Delphi served as one of the lead sponsors of the event, painting a Lawrence Police cruiser a light blue to correspond with autism awareness.
To accompany the blue autism car, Lawrence Police Officers unveiled new light blue badges with a puzzle piece emblem — the universal logo for autism — matching the logo displayed on the Delphi-sponsored car, that they will wear throughout April.
Additionally, Delphi worked with the Lawrence Police Department to launch its SafeWatch Program, which is designed by Delphi to proactively catalog information on individuals who may have disabilities or conditions that would cause them to be at risk for wandering or getting lost. SafeWatch will instantly generate a missing person report complete with a photo, personal identifying information, medical history, physical description, potential locations they may travel to and many other important data points. This feature is accessible by mobile terminals in the police cars and can be transmitted out to all officers on a search.
The event was put on in correlation with National Autism Awareness Month, which occurs every year in April and works to raise awareness about the disorder and raise money for research, treatment, therapy and interventions.
“We were honored to be a part of the Lawrence Police Department’s ‘Light It Up Blue’ Campaign,” said James Trombly, Delphi President and CEO. “Kids had a great time sitting and taking pictures in the blue police cruiser. It was a great way to start a conversation about autism.”
