Maynard Town Administrator Kevin Sweet Receives Credentialed Manager Designation
MAYNARD — The Maynard Board of Selectmen is pleased to announce that Town Administrator Kevin Sweet recently received the Credentialed Manager designation from the International City/County Management Association (ICMA).
Sweet is one of just 32 local government management professionals currently credentialed in Massachusetts and over 1,400 credentialed nationally.
To receive the ICMA credential, a member must have significant experience as a senior management executive in local government, have earned a degree, preferably in public administration or a related field, and demonstrated a commitment to high standards of integrity, lifelong learning and professional development.
Applicants are recognized through a peer review credentialing process, and must also answer an assessment of approximately 100 questions.
“I am honored to have received the credentialed manager designation and to have the opportunity to be part of a group of people who are so dedicated to this profession,” Sweet said. “This achievement is largely due to the great amount of support I have received from my staff, coworkers and Board of Selectmen over the years, and I would like to thank them for that.”
Sweet has more than 12 years of professional local government experience. Prior to his appointment as Town Administrator in 2013, he served as Assistant Town Administrator and Executive Director of Municipal Services. Additionally, Sweet has held positions including Director of Public Health, Assistant Executive Director of Public Health and Director of Operations, and has served as a consultant for several communities throughout Massachusetts.
In addition to practical experience, Sweet has held adjunct faculty positions in management programs and has served as a guest lecturer at several universities throughout New England.
Sweet has made significant contributions to a number of other state and national organizations holding a variety of volunteer leadership roles, including currently serving as an Executive Committee Member of the Massachusetts Municipal Management Association and a Governor-appointed Commissioner of the 495/MetroWest Suburban Edge Community Commission.
Sweet holds a master’s degree in public administration with a concentration in financial management, a master’s degree in emergency management, a bachelor’s degree in safety and environmental protection, a graduate certificate in local government leadership and management, and a graduate certificate in public health preparedness.
“On behalf of the Board of Selectmen, I would like to congratulate Kevin on achieving the prestigious credentialed manager designation,” said Chris DiSilva, Chairman of the Maynard Board of Selectmen. “His commitment to excellence and drive for success has made Maynard a better place to live, work and visit, and we are thankful to have him as our Town Administrator.”
