Newport Police Respond to Minor Motor Vehicle Crash

NEWPORT, Vt. — Chief Seth DiSanto reports that the Newport Police responded to a minor motor vehicle crash this morning.

At approximately 7:45 a.m., the Newport Police Department responded to a motor vehicle crash involving a tractor trailer and motor vehicle on Western Avenue.

Upon arrival, police learned that an 18-year-old male in a Chevy Cobalt was traveling on Mount Vernon Street and attempted to turn right on Western Avenue when his car slid and entered the left lane of travel. The Chevy then hit the rear driver’s side of a tractor trailer.

The Newport Fire Department also responded to the scene.

The 18-year-old male and driver of the tractor trailer, a 42-year-old man from Canada, were not injured. The Chevy sustained substantial front-end damage and was towed from the scene.

This incident remains under investigation by the Newport Police Department, however road conditions were found to be a factor in the crash.
