Burlington Police Department Finalizing State Accreditation Process
BURLINGTON — Chief Michael Kent is pleased to announce that a team of assessors from the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission is scheduled to arrive on Tuesday, March 21 at 8:45 a.m. to begin examining various aspects of the Burlington Police Department’s policies and procedures, operations and facilities.
The assessment team must verify that the Burlington Police Department meets the Commission’s standards as one of the last steps in the voluntary process to gain state accreditation.
Accreditation is a self-initiated evaluation process by which police departments strive to meet and maintain standards and best practices that have been established for modern law enforcement agencies.
The accreditation program consists of 253 mandatory standards as well as 122 optional standards. In order to achieve accreditation status, the department must meet all applicable mandatory standards as well as 60 percent of the optional standards.
Achieving Accreditation is a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence. Anyone interested in learning more about this program is invited to call Chief Kent or the Department’s Accreditation Manager, Lt. Thomas Browne, at 781-272-1212.
