Northeast Metro Tech Students Create and Donate Item for Wounded Veterans Fundraiser
WAKEFIELD — School Committee Chairman Deborah Davis and Superintendent David DiBarri are pleased to announce that students at Northeast Metropolitan Regional Technical Vocational High School created and donated an item to benefit the Wounded Veterans Ride.
Started in 2011, the annual bike run raises money for the servicemen and women who were injured in the line of duty. Each year, motorcyclists take to the streets, riding through Boston’s suburbs to help provide a better life to disabled veterans.
To help support the cause, eight senior students in Northeast Metro Tech’s metal fabrication class, under the guidance of instructors Steven Boyd, Chris Bolster, Charles Russo and William Williams, made and donated a fire pit out of carbon steel. It will be raffled off at the Cabin Fever Party, on Saturday, Feb. 18 at Anthony’s of Malden, 105 Canal St., Malden — a fundraising event held prior to the Wounded Veterans Ride.
“We are extremely grateful for the service these men and women have given to our country and it’s our honor to contribute to this fundraiser,” Davis said. “The metal fabrication students did an outstanding job on this project and we’re proud to show off our work.”
The fire pit stands at 26 inches tall, 31 inches in diameter and has a removable 15-inch top. A custom graphic of a motorcyclist is affixed around the center screen, in honor of the charity bike event.
“This was a great opportunity for our students to use the skills they learned in class to create something that will benefit an extremely worthy cause,” Superintendent DiBarri said. “We’re always happy to collaborate with nonprofits and community groups and I’m pleased that this project will have a direct benefit to wounded veterans.”
