Melrose High School Senior Selected for All-State Music Festival
MELROSE — Melrose High School Principal Jason Merrill is pleased to announce that senior Keith Morris was accepted to the All-State Concert and will perform at Symphony Hall in Boston this spring.
A part of the All-State Festival, the concert showcases the talents of student musicians from across Massachusetts. The performance will feature four groups: chorus, jazz band, orchestra and symphonic band.
Morris, a tenor, has been singing in the Melrose Public Schools’ choral program since fourth grade. As the only MHS student that participated in the All-State auditions on Jan. 21, he earned a spot in the approximately 200 member chorus ensemble — becoming one of 450 musicians that was selected out of the 1,000 who auditioned statewide.
“The All-State Festival is one of the highest honors that a Massachusetts high school music student can achieve,” said Luke Miller, Orchestra Director for Melrose High School and the middle school. “We’re extremely excited that Keith’s talents are being recognized.”
Community members are invited to attend the All-State Concert, which will be held March 11 at 1 p.m. in Symphony Hall, 301 Mass Ave., Boston.
“It is a great honor for our school to be represented by Keith at this prestigious festival,” Principal Merrill said. “We are very proud of his accomplishments, and we hope that he continues to flourish in his musical career.”
Morris previously won Best Leading Actor for his performance as Jean Valjean in the 2016 Melrose Drama performance of “Les Miserables.” The production also won Best Student Orchestra and Best Choral Ensemble.
The All-State Festival is put on by the Massachusetts Music Educators Association (MMEA). It is organized to give the MMEA All-State students an opportunity to demonstrate their artistry and to create new friendships. Tickets are $21 and must be ordered by March 4.
