Rowley Police to Host Citizens Police Academy

ROWLEY– Chief Scott A. Dumas is pleased to announce that the Rowley Police Department is now accepting applications for its sixth Citizens Police Academy this spring.

The academy is designed to familiarize residents with the daily operations of the Rowley Police Department. Classes will cover a range of topics including CPR, using automated external defibrillators, drug enforcement, crime scene investigation, traffic stops and crashes, firearms, detection for operating under the influence of alcohol, and the K-9 and SWAT units.

Participants will also have the opportunity to tour the Middleton House of Corrections and complete a four-hour ride along to observe police officers on patrol.

This free nine-week program will begin on March 15, with classes held every Wednesday from 6:30-9 p.m. at the Rowley Police Department. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and class size is limited to 15 participants. Rowley residents will be given preference.

“The Citizens Police Academy is a great opportunity for people to learn about how the department operates and functions,” Chief Dumas said. “We’re excited to offer this course again and encourage everyone who can to sign up.”

Applications may be picked up at the Rowley Police Department, 477 Haverhill St., or downloaded at rowleypolice.com and returned to to Capt. David Sedgwick. All forms must be submitted by March 1.
