Bedford Police Investigating Suspicious Device Found in Roadway Culvert
Device Removed and Rendered Safe – No Danger to the Community
BEDFORD — Chief Robert Bongiorno reports that the Bedford Police Department and Bedford Fire Department responded to an area on the Minuteman Bikeway this morning after a suspicious device was found on the side of the road.
At approximately 7:55 a.m., the Bedford Police Department received a call from a worker at the Department of Public Works who was cleaning culverts along the Minuteman Bikeway and noticed a suspicious device.
Bedford Police responded to the culvert, located at a section of the Elm Brook conservation land which crosses the bike path — behind the parking lots at 15 DeAngelo Drive and 140 South Road.
Police located the object, which was a beer bottle partially filled with liquid with cloth stopper sticking out of the top.
The Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad was notified of the device, which was confirmed to have flammable contents inside, and arrived on scene, later rendering it safe.
This incident remains under investigation by the Bedford Police Department.
Anyone with information about this incident, or the device left in the area, is asked to call the Bedford Police Department at 781-275-1212.
