Burlington Police Department Hires New Officer
BURLINGTON — Police Chief Michael Kent is pleased to welcome a new officer to the Burlington Police Department.
Officer Dominic Alfred Calicchio will begin a police academy course on Jan. 30 following his appointment during a swearing in ceremony on Monday evening.
He comes to the department from the University of Massachusetts Lowell, where he is completing a joint bachelor’s and master’s degree program in criminology.
A Burlington native and resident, Officer Calicchio, 22, is the son of Alfred and Gloria Calicchio. He is a 2013 graduate of Burlington High School and served as a part-time police intern at the Burlington Police Department last year. While maintaining excellent standing with the Department, Officer Calicchio was also able to coach basketball and assist the varsity football coach at Burlington High School.
“Officer Calicchio has an outstanding work ethic and has shown a great ability to lead. He is team-oriented, highly motivated and will make a great addition to the Burlington Police Department,“ Chief Kent said.
Officer Calicchio joins an active and progressive police department comprised of 64 full-time officers, three dispatchers, three civilian clerks, 12 traffic supervisor/matrons and an animal control officer. The department is proud of the fact that many of its officers were born, raised and reside within the Burlington community.
Following his graduation from the academy, Officer Calicchio will be assigned to the Burlington Police Department’s field training program after graduation. During the field training program, he will work alongside an experienced training officer and learn on the job before being assigned to a shift.
