Chelmsford Police Respond to Overnight Train Derailment
CHELMSFORD — Chief James Spinney reports that the Chelmsford Police Department responded to an overnight train derailment where the tracks were damaged, but no one was injured.
At approximately 3 a.m., the Chelmsford Police Department received a report from Pan Am Railways that a train had been derailed in the area of School Street and Meadowbrook Road.
Upon arrival, police and fire learned that four cars from a 66-car train had come off the tracks, blocking School Street and Meadowbrook Road.
No injuries were reported. Pan Am Railways worked through the night repairing the damaged tracks and removing the derailed cars. Work will continue throughout today. School Street and Meadowbrook Road were temporarily closed, but are now open to through traffic.
The cause of the derailment remains under investigation by the Chelmsford Police Department and Pan Am Railways.
