Reading Deputy Chief Pinned During Swearing In Ceremony
READING — Chief Mark D. Segalla is pleased to announce that Deputy Chief David J. Clark was sworn into his position during a pinning ceremony this week.
The ceremony occurred on Jan. 11 and formally inducted Clark as Deputy Chief. It included the pinning of a uniform insignia onto Deputy Chief Clark’s badge, which was done by his father, Rufus Clark, who is a 1960 Reading Memorial High School graduate.
Deputy Chief Clark was first hired at the Reading Police Department in 1995. In 2005, he was promoted to sergeant and then to lieutenant in 2014. In August 2016, he earned the role of deputy chief.
As Deputy Chief, Clark maintains a line of command and fosters the professional growth and development of the Reading Police Department to further community relationships in town. He is also the New Hire Coordinator, Field Training Officer Manager, National Incident-Based Reporting System Coordinator, Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) Program Coordinator and EMT Coordinator.
“Deputy Chief Clark is an incredible asset to both the department and the town of Reading and I’m pleased to be working alongside him,” Chief Segalla said. “His commitment and dedication to public safety is unparalleled and I know he will continue to excel in this role.”
Prior to becoming a police officer, Deputy Chief Clark served as a military police officer in the United States Army, where he completed tours in Panama, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Cuba.
A 1989 Reading Memorial High School graduate, Deputy Chief Clark went on to get his criminal justice degree from Salem State College. He received his master’s degree in criminal justice from Western New England University and earned a certificate in leadership from Suffolk University.
