Georgetown Fire Department Withholds Business’ License to Operate Due to Multiple Fire Code Violations

GEORGETOWN — Chief Fred A. Mitchell Jr. reports that the Georgetown Fire Department has withheld the license to operate for a local business after firefighters found multiple fire code violations over a period of several months.

Over the past year, the Fire Department has been working with Georgetown Candlepin Bowling Lanes, located at 5 Park St., after fire investigators found several problems, including fire code and safety violations in the building.

These laws and regulations exist to ensure customer safety, and the business will remain closed until corrective actions can be taken and the business receives a satisfactory follow-up inspection from the Georgetown Fire Department.

“The Georgetown Fire Department has a duty to ensure that business patrons are safe and are able to evacuate from a premises quickly and without obstruction,” Chief Mitchell said. “We are committed to working with the business owner to ensure that the establishment is safe for both the public and first responders who may have to respond for an emergency situation.”

The Fire Department will re-inspect the premises on Jan. 11, and the license status will be discussed at a Board of Selectmen’s meeting later in the month.
