Georgetown Fire Department Collects 2,700 Toys During Toys for Tots Fundraiser
GEORGETOWN – Chief Fred A. Mitchell Jr. announces that the Georgetown Fire Department has collected 2,700 toys during its 17th annual fundraising event for Toys for Tots.
“I am thankful to the people of Georgetown for once again helping to make this such a successful event for Toys for Tots,” Chief Mitchell said. “We are proud to be part of such a great cause and look forward to continuing this tradition next year.”
On Sunday, Dec. 4, the Georgetown Fire Department took part in its 17th Annual Santa Tour, where the department takes Santa through the town’s neighborhoods to collect new, unwrapped gifts for children ages infant to 16.
The fire department has been collecting toys to donate to Toys for Tots, a foundation started by the U.S. Marine Corps, every year since 2000. Deputy Fire Chief Rusty Ricker coordinates the Santa Tour.
“I’m overwhelmed with the outpouring of support and donations we’ve received this year,” Deputy Chief Ricker said. “I want to thank everyone who helped out along the way. Thanks to your generosity, there are going to be a lot of happy children out there this holiday season.”
The Georgetown Fire Department would also like to thank the following local sponsors and supporters: Village Sub and Pizza, Pomodori’s Restaurant, Sam’s Transportation, the Georgetown Highway Department and Freedom Pest Control.
For those who are still interested in donating to Toys for Tots, the Massachusetts State Police Barracks at 200 Scotland Road in Newbury remains a drop-off point.
