Concord Police Host Successful Citizen’s Academy
CONCORD – Chief Joseph O’Connor is pleased to announce that the Concord Police Department hosted a successful Citizen’s Police Academy, which concluded this week.
Eleven community members graduated from the 10-week course on Wednesday, Dec. 7.
“I wish to thank the citizens who participated and the members of our department for their efforts,” Chief O’Connor said. “This academy is another example of our commitment to community policing.”
Classes began on Oct. 5 and were held every Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. at the police station. Participants learned about what officers and dispatchers do on a day-to-day basis with interactive activities. Topics/classes include:
- Community policing
- Tour of the station and the dispatch room
- Tour of the Middlesex Jail and House of Correction
- New recruit training
- Officer safety
- Motor vehicle law
- Domestic violence
- D.A.R.E program
- Information on frauds/scams
- Explanations on use of force and Tasers
- Active shooter training
- Drunk driving
- “Shoot don’t shoot” patrol operations
