Pepperell Police Department Announces Promotions
PEPPERELL — Police Chief David Scott is pleased to announce the promotions of Detective Thomas Maskalenko to the rank of sergeant and Officer Jeremiah Friend to detective.
Members of the Pepperell Police Department and their families gathered at the Board of Selectmen meeting on Monday, Nov. 14 to show support for their newly promoted sergeant and detective as the selectmen unanimously approved the appointments. Both positions become effective on Nov. 20.
“I believe that both of these men will be highly successful in their new roles, as they have done excellent work for the department in their previous positions,” Chief Scott said. “I offer my sincere congratulations to Sgt. Maskalenko and Detective Friend and wish them the best of luck moving forward.”
Detective Friend is filling the detective position vacated by Sgt. Maskalenko’s promotion.
Sgt. Maskalenko started his career as a full-time firefighter/EMT in Bedford. He then transitioned to law enforcement in 2006, beginning at the Boston College Police Department. Sgt. Maskalenko joined the Pepperell Police Department in 2007 as a full-time officer, and has been serving as the department’s sole detective since 2012.
Detective Friend began his law enforcement career in 2006 as an auxiliary officer for Pepperell. After graduating from the police academy in 2007, he worked for the Fitchburg State University Police Department from 2008 through Feb. 2012, until he was hired full time by the Pepperell Police Department.
