Ipswich Police Participate in No-Shave November
IPSWICH — This month, you may notice something different when you come in contact with Ipswich police officers and dispatchers. As part of Chief Paul A. Nikas’ continuing efforts to expand community involvement, members of the Ipswich Police Department and Ipswich Public Safety Dispatch are participating in the annual No-Shave November campaign.
A nonprofit organization, No-Shave November works to “grow” cancer awareness and raise funds for education, research and prevention.
In Ipswich, officers and dispatchers can make a $50 donation to grow neatly trimmed beards during the month of November. Additionally, MA COP Local 310 (police) and Teamsters Local 42 (dispatch) will be making donations in support of the cause. Members hope to raise $1,500 to donate to the No-Shave November foundation.
“Everyone I know has been touched by cancer in some way during their lives. Whether it’s through family, a loved one, friend, co-worker, classmate or themselves, cancer has entered their lives and changed them forever,” Chief Nikas said. “I have lost close family members to this disease and thankfully, I have had close family members survive this disease. Cancer doesn’t care what your race, ethnicity, religion, sexual preference or socioeconomic status is, it can strike anyone of us in the Ipswich community. The men and women of the Ipswich Police Department and Public Safety Dispatchers wanted to show their support for their community by bringing awareness to this disease, help initiate a conversation and seek donations to combat cancer. I couldn’t be prouder of them all.”
In addition to initiating a conversation about cancer and cancer awareness, No-Shave November raises money to donate to cancer research and to provide free information and services to cancer patients and their caregivers. This year, the foundation will raise money for the American Cancer Society, Prevent Cancer Foundation, Fight Colorectal Cancer and the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
The Ipswich Police department looks forward to this event as a unique way to raise cancer awareness and encourages members of the public to join the initiative. For more information, or for those interested in making a donation, please visit the department’s fundraising page here.
