P.A.A.R.I. Alerts Partners to Nationwide Naloxone Recall

GLOUCESTER — John Rosenthal, chairman of the Police Assisted Addiction and Recovery Initiative (P.A.A.R.I.), and Executive Director Allie Hunter McDade are seeking to alert the organization’s police partners that Teleflex Medical Corporation, a manufacturer of nasal naloxone (Narcan), has voluntarily recalled its 2 mg atomizer, as it may not deliver the proper dosage of the opioid reversal drug.

Teleflex Medical has received complaints that affected devices produce a straight stream of medication, instead of an atomized spray, which may impair the effectiveness of the drug.

Police departments should check to see if their devices are part of the affected batches. Although new atomizers have already been ordered, P.A.A.R.I. would like its partners to know that it currently has approximately 3,000 doses of 4 mg nasal Narcan from Adapt Pharma, which are not part of the recall. Those in need of new products should not hesitate to contact P.A.A.R.I. for an immediate replacement.

“We would never want any police department or first responder to be without this life saving opioid reversal drug,” Rosenthal said. “Please check to see if your device has been affected in this recall, and if so, reach out to P.A.A.R.I. to restock your supply for free.”
