Bedford Police Officers to Participate in No-Shave November to Benefit Home Base Foundation
BEDFORD — Chief Robert Bongiorno is pleased to announce that the Bedford Police Department will participate in “No-Shave November” to raise money for veterans and their families.
The department’s initiative will benefit Home Base, a Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital program dedicated to help veterans and their families heal from the invisible wounds of war, such as traumatic brain injury, post-traumatic stress disorder and related conditions. Each officer that pledges a minimum donation of $100 will be granted a month-long waiver from the department policy restricting facial hair growth.
In 2015, MBTA Transit Police started the “No-Shave November” first responder initiative and raised $15,000. This year, transit officers will not only be joined by Bedford officers, but also by members of the Boston, Foxborough, Reading, Tewksbury and Watertown police departments.
“This No-Shave November initiative has proven to be not only incredibly successful, but also fun for our whole department,” Chief Bongiorno said. “We encourage all residents to join us in supporting Home Base and educating themselves on veteran services.”
Community members who wish to join the Bedford Police Department in supporting veterans and their families can drop off a check or money order at the department. All checks should be made out to Home Base. Bedford police officials will send all donations to the organization at the beginning of December.
