Andover Police Investigating Suspicious Ice Cream Truck Driver
No Threat to Public Safety
ANDOVER — Chief Patrick Keefe reports that the Andover Police Department is investigating an incident that occurred yesterday where a 16-year-old Andover girl reported that a man in an ice cream truck attempted to speak with her as she was walking home.
On Wednesday Sept. 21, at approximately 3:15 p.m., Andover Police were dispatched to the area of High Plain Road and Beacon Street after a female teenager reported a suspicious man in an ice cream truck.
The girl told police that she had observed the vehicle approaching her on the other side of the road and a man yelled “hey” and “hello” from the vehicle, which continued driving. The vehicle reportedly never stopped and no one got out.
Dispatch notified surrounding cities and towns of information relative to the suspicious vehicle in an effort to locate and identify the occupants. Andover Police conducted a search of the area including schools, which yielded negative results.
The vehicle did not have any distinctive markings on it aside from the word “Ice Cream” on the side written in blue lettering.
“This young woman did the right thing by calling police after an unnerving situation,” Chief Keefe said. “At this time we do not feel the public is in any danger, but will continue to search for this vehicle and follow up on any leads we receive.”
Anyone with information on this matter, or who was in the area at the time incident, is encouraged to call the Andover Police Department at 978-475-0411.
