Chelmsford Police Investigating Motor Vehicle Crash Involving Bicyclist
CHELMSFORD — Chief James M. Spinney reports that the Chelmsford Police Department is investigating a motor vehicle crash this morning involving a bicyclist who was traveling on the bike path.
At 8:57 a.m., police received a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a bicyclist at Golden Cove Road and the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail.
Upon arrival to the scene, police learned that a 39-year-old Chelmsford man was traveling on the bike path. When the man arrived at the intersection of Golden Cove Road, it appears that he failed to stop at the stop sign, and proceeded into the street, where he struck the side of a vehicle on Golden Cove Road. The car was driven by a 62-year-old woman from Lowell.
The man was thrown about 20 feet from his bicycle and was taken to an area hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries. The woman was not injured and police do not believe the vehicle’s speed played a factor in the crash.
The incident remains under investigation by the Chelmsford Police Department.
